Installation of new 600 MHz instrument postponed to 2027
NMR liquid state
Between 3 and 12 students can take KJM 5250 and KJM 9250 in the spring of 2022 depending upon the corona situation and available teaching capacity.
New 400 on field in Oslo. Software optimalization, pulse calibrations and fine tuning from Monday September 20th.
The new AV Neo 400 MHz nmr spectrometer might arrive in September.
In the autumn of 2020 KJM 5280 is run as a regular course lasting the whole semester. Usually the course is finished in 4-5 weeks. In order to fulfill the Corona virus regulations, the starting lectures will maybe be given as zoom lectures. In case regular lectures are given they will take place in room Ø 316 in the Chemistry building on Monday August 31st and Friday September 4th. The lectures will not be recorded and are only available when they take place. The course will accommodate up to 12 students. 6 students participate August 31st and 6 students participate September 4th. It is compulsory to participate.
You are expected to know, remember and being able to use the knowledge obtained in KJM 5280 (5 study points) when taking KJM 5250 or KJM 9250
MR 2020, the biennial conference of the Norwegian Society for Magnetic Resonance will take place at Voksenåsen Hotel overlooking Oslo on January 7th and 8th, 2020.
The AVIII HD 800 instrument was produced in 2015 and installed in the NMR Center in September 2015. Initially it had a field drift of over 60 Hz/hour. Now the drift is less than 0.1 Hz/week.
The AVIII HD 400 nmr instrument was purchased with new electronics and a pre owned magnet. The shielded AVIII 400 magnet was produced in 2001 and has had a previous life at Astra Zeneca in Södertälje, the AVIII HD 400 console is manufactured in 2015. The installation took place in March 2015.

The AVII 400 nmr instrument was purchased as a preowned instrument. The shielded AVII 400 magnet was produced in 1999 and has a previous life at Norsk Hydro at Herøya and the AVII 400 console was manufactured around 2006. The installation took place in September 2010. The instrument was decommissioned in September 2021. For a cost of only 1.6 MNOK a productive life of 5 years with thousands and thousands of experiments run on it - it was a good investment.
The 12th "Norwegian National MR meeting" will be arranged in Oslo Tuesday January 10th and Wednesday January 11th in 2012.
The Department of Chemistry maintains and operates an advanced state-of-the-art NMR laboratory with a fleet of 7 instruments in the range from 200 MHz to 800 MHz.
The AVII 600 instrument was produced in 2004 and installed in our laboratories in September 2005 and was demagnetized and put out of service in February 2023 because of the high price for liquid helium resulting from Putin's war in Ukraine.
The AVI 600 instrument was produced in 2002, lived a life as a demo instrument in Dr Detlef Moskau´s laboratory in Fällanden and was installed in our laboratories in January 2003.
The DRX 500 instrument was produced in 1993 and installed in our laboratories in September 1994. The magnet quenched slowly in March 2010 and was recharged when the AVII 400 magnet was energized. Taken together with the problem of obtaining a replacemnet shim system for the magnet and the time consuming shim and pulse optimization of the instrument we lost more than one year of instrument time.
The DPX 300 instrument was produced in 1993 and was installed in our laboratories in February 1994.
Home built aluminum plates for heating of magnet O-rings during low temperature NMR- experiments. Heating- and cooling-device of shim system when performing low and high temperature experiments respectively.
The DPX 200 instrument was produced in 1993 and was installed in our laboratories in January 1994.
Not everyone can book time slots to run nmr experiment manually on the instruments DPX500, AVI600 and AVIIIHD800. You must be an approved user with a high level of competence. You must be pre-approved before booking any slots. If in any doubt send an e-mail to frode.rise(at)gmail.com and ask if you are allowed to use any of these instruments manually.
The "University of Oslo NMR Center" is located at the Department of Chemistry University of Oslo. This core facility is moving to the UiO Life Science building in 2026.
